Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/ No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and choke holds to force an opponent to submit. BJJ promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant. It can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition. The BJJ practitioners/ fighters at Standalone have won may medals in tournaments and enjoy the best instruction between Redding and Sacramento.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

Muay Thai Kickboxing, also known as Thai Boxing or The Art of the Eight Limbs has become the main “Striking” Art the athletes in the UFC practice. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art. Muay Thai Kickboxing is vastly superior to more traditional Martial Arts like Karate or Tae Kwon Do etc. Classes focus on personal fitness, kickboxing technique and self defense. You will work on bag and mitt drills, partner drills and sparring as well. NOBODY has more experience and expertise in teaching you Muay Thai within 50 miles of Chico than the coaches at StandAlone MMA.

Boxing is in principle a sport, more than a martial art. Matches are heavily regulated and when it comes to punching technique and power, and there are few martial arts that are as focused on fist strikes as pugilism is. In addition, practitioners are well known for fantastic footwork and the manipulation of angles to beat their opponents. Combined, these two aspects make these athletes very dangerous in fights. Boxing at StandAlone MMA will help you with your self-defense, cardiovascular fitness, confidence and stress reduction.
