As an author of several mixed martial art instructional books, I’ve had the pleasure of working and training with some of the best fighters in the world, including Randy Couture, BJ Penn, and Fedor Emelianenko. However, none of the gyms that I’ve visited compare to StandAlone Mixed Martial Arts Academy. Everyone here is treated like family. The coaches are passionate about the sport, and go out of their way to make sure everyone feels welcome. Best of all, the gym is well maintained and always clean. Whether you are an athlete looking to challenge himself in MMA, Muay Thai, or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or a someone that wants to get into shape and learn self defense, this is the gym for you.* |

I’ve trained various martial arts for over 20 years but had fallen out of practice due to the demands of writing and building a business. At age 38 I had some trepidation about starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu again but I need not have worried. The instruction at Stand Alone Martial Arts is outstanding. Safe, technical and fun. I highly recommend StandAlone MMA for anyone, from the complete beginner to the UFC hopeful.* |

“Stand Alone is one of the top MMA gyms in the country for fight preparation. With all of the coaches being professional fighters, they know how all pieces of the puzzle fit together, from building up your endurance to preparing you mentally for the cage. If your goal is to become proficient in the sport of MMA, you can’t go wrong with the Stand Alone gym.”* |

I started at StandAlone overweight, out of shape, and with no prior experience training in Martial Arts. Since I had no prior experience, I was nervous about gym ego’s and if I would fit in. After the first class all nerves were gone as the friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable coaches were willing to help with any questions that I had. After the first 6 months of going I lost 60 pounds, and have since kept that weight off. Along with this I gained a better self confidence in not only how I looked, but that I could protect myself if a situation arose that called for it. My focus of losing weight has transitioned into a love of Muay Thai and a drive to perfect the techniques taught to me. Standalone’s dedication to providing the best training possible for their students has kept me as a member for 3 years, and I look forward to many more. I recommend this gym to anyone as they accommodate both those that want to lose weight, and those wanting to progress in a combat sport.* |

Before I began training at StandAlone MMA, I was very out of shape!! You could say I was flat out fat. The trainers at StandAlone MMA were able to do what I couldn’t do on my own, get me motivated. After the first week, I was hooked and could not get enough. The trainers challenged me to make life changes that extend far beyond the gym. The trainers at StandAlone MMA were a constant source of encouragement as well as a great resource for fitness tips. Fast forward a year and I have been competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments and my body weight has dropped from 245lbs to 175lbs. I am in the best shape of my life and I can’t seem to get enough of the training that StandAlone offers. Since I began competing in BJJ tournaments for the StandAlone BJJ team, I have taken two silver medals and two bronze medals. Including a bronze at the U.S. Open and a bronze at the American Cup!! If you come to train a day at StandAlone you will be hooked and hopefully you will be inspired like I was!!! See you all in the gym!!!!* |

I began my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training with Rickson Gracie in 1994. 11 years ago I founded Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Korea. 7 years ago I brought BJJ to Chico. I have since returned to Korea where I have 13 academies under me, and serve as Regional Director for the Straight Blast Gym International. But when I am back in Chico, I train at StandAlone MMA. They have the best instructors, facilities, and, most importantly, attitude in the area.* |
